A parking lot is a different animal than a driveway: it has to be empty before the first car turns in, and there is exactly one window in which to do it. J Moore Inc. runs snow work in Mequon in those hours between the last car leaving and the first one arriving — plowing lots and drives, opening walks and entryways, salting where meltwater refreezes into black glass. Ozaukee County storms rarely arrive politely; some come as three inches of powder off the lake, some as wet slush that sets up like concrete by morning, and each asks something different of the blade. Where the snow gets stacked matters too, piled clear of sightlines at the exit and away from pavement that has to drain come thaw. Done right, nobody notices, and that is precisely the point.
