Mahner Service

About Mahner Service

Autumn downtown, Main Street in Medford going gold and then bare, because this far north the leaves come off all at once. Mahner Service is out in the middle of it — mowing what is still growing, clearing fallen leaves off lawns and walks, cutting the edges back before the ground hardens for good. A few weeks later the trucks carry plows instead, and the job becomes opening drives, clearing sidewalks and salting the places that go slick under a store awning. Summer holds the mowing steady, week to week, at a height that keeps turf thick through the dry spells. Two kinds of work, one town, done so a place looks tended.
