About Total Land Care, LLC

North of downtown the La Crosse River Marsh sits in its own weather: cattails, a heron standing still as a fencepost, mist that lifts off the water by mid-morning. Total Land Care, LLC mows the lawns that ring that shallow water and climb the blocks beyond it, cutting in even passes and running the trimmer tight to posts, hydrants and foundation lines. Valley ground holds its damp longer than the ridge does, so much of the work is reading the soil — when to feed it, when to leave it alone, when to pull the clippings off before they mat. Spring cleanup here means clearing a winter's worth of grit and broken marsh grass off the boulevard; autumn means staying ahead of the maples until the last one lets go. The reward is plain and worth having: a lawn lying flat and even in the long river light, edges true, nothing left behind but the smell of cut grass.
