Coulee Region Ecoscapes

About Coulee Region Ecoscapes

The coulees south of La Crosse run like green hallways between the ridges, cold creeks along the bottom, oak and prairie grass climbing the sides. Coulee Region Ecoscapes takes its name from that Driftless country and does its lawn work in it — mowing, trimming, edging and seasonal cleanups on yards that share a fence line with the wild half of the valley. Working here means reading the ground: sun on one slope, shade on the other, moisture pooling where the coulee narrows. A lawn kept well against that backdrop does not compete with the landscape; it simply gives the house a clean apron to sit on. Every ridge road out of town makes the point twice a day, going up and coming back down.
