St. Croix Brush Control

About St. Croix Brush Control

Past the edge of town the streetlights give out and the roads run between windbreak rows, where a January wind comes off Lake Mallalieu with nothing standing in its way. St. Croix Brush Control works those long country drives — the quarter-mile push, the turnaround opened wide enough for a delivery truck, the drifted corner cut back before it sets up hard. Snow out here does not simply fall; it travels, filling in behind you, so the job is measured in return trips as much as in inches. Sand and salt go down on the shaded stretches that stay glazed for a week after everything else has dried. The reward is a rural driveway that lets a car leave on time on a morning when the fields are still moving. Routes run from Hudson out toward Star Prairie, Somerset, Roberts and Baldwin.
