American Lawns

About American Lawns

Evening comes slowly to Hallie at midsummer, the sun lingering over the Chippewa River valley long after supper is cleared. American Lawns spends those long days mowing, trimming and edging yards across this Chippewa Valley town. The aim is plain and good: grass cut uniform from curb to back fence, a driveway edge as straight as a surveyor's string, the walk free of clippings. Come the Fourth of July, flags snap on front porches above lawns that look ready for company. When the light finally slips behind the trees, a yard American Lawns has just finished is the picture of a Wisconsin summer evening the way it ought to be.
