Out toward Saukville and Grafton the driveways get long — gravel and blacktop running two hundred feet back from the road — and in December they freeze hard by four in the morning. S & L Enterprise takes on that kind of ground around Cedarburg: plowing, drive and lot clearing, walk shoveling and salting through the cold months, then mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups the rest of the year. Long drives are their own puzzle, mostly a question of where to push the snow so the banks don't creep in and swallow the width by February. Solve it once in the fall and the whole winter runs easier. Come July the same property is a wide green run of lawn, cut and trimmed, and the two halves of the year turn out to be one job.
