Red Oaks Services

About Red Oaks Services

The hard storms reach Friendship on a northwest wind that has crossed the open water of Petenwell and Castle Rock and picked up speed the whole way. Red Oaks Services is out in the dark hours of it, headlights swinging across white driveways, blade dropping before most alarm clocks have rung. Plowing, shoveling out the steps, laying salt against the refreeze — the order of operations never changes, and neither does the aim. Whatever fell overnight, the drive is open by the time the coffee is on. In a town named Friendship, that early pass counts as a kind of greeting.
