Nick's Snow Removal

About Nick's Snow Removal

A clipper drops down out of Alberta and reaches the Chippewa Valley sometime after midnight, dry and fine and relentless, and by three in the morning Eau Claire has a whole new set of dimensions. Nick's Snow Removal is out in it — headlights, blade down, the driveway opened and the walk cut through while the city is still asleep. There is a particular kind of good morning where someone steps outside expecting a shovel and finds bare pavement instead. Salt and sand go on the shaded apron and on the walkway where a boot slips first. Storm by storm all winter, the job is simply this: be there before the day starts.
