Sam's Spades Landscape & Gardening

About Sam's Spades Landscape & Gardening

The valley soil around Cashton is deep and dark and forgiving, the kind that makes gardeners out of people who never planned on becoming any such thing. Sam's Spades Landscape & Gardening spends the growing season with hands in it — mowing lawns, trimming edges, and clearing out beds and turf in spring and again when the season closes down. Late May in the coulees is almost absurd: the hillsides go three shades of green at once and the grass grows faster than anyone can keep up with. Evening is the good hour for this work, when the ridge shadow slides down across the valley and the last pass gets made in cool air. A mown lawn, a clean edge, and the whole yard reads as tended.
