About Spring Green

The green really does arrive in Barron County the way the name suggests — late, then suddenly, a whole village turning over in about ten days in May. Spring Green tends lawns around Cameron through that turn and everything after it: mowing on a schedule, trimming the edges a mower cannot reach, clearing out what the shoulder seasons leave behind. Grass this far north grows fast and grows hard while it has the light, so staying ahead of it is most of the job. There is a plain pleasure in a yard cut even, with the stripes running the same direction all summer long. It holds until the frost, and then it waits.
