About Rick Gruel Landscaping & Design

Cable calls itself Trail Town USA, and each February the Northwoods seems to gather here as the American Birkebeiner skiers push off toward Hayward. Rick Gruel Landscaping & Design works deep in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, plowing and clearing snow through the long Bayfield County winter. When the ski tracks melt into mountain-bike season, the work shifts to lawn care, mowing and trimming yards carved out among the pines and birches. There is a deep contentment in a cabin drive opened after a fresh foot of powder, or a lawn cut clean against a wall of dark forest. Up here, where winter claims half the year, both jobs keep a home prepared for the outdoors that drew everyone north.
