The wind this outfit is named for comes down across Trout Lake with nothing to slow it: in July it carries water and pine pitch, in January it puts a knife edge on twenty below. North Wind Land Management works both ends of that year around Boulder Junction — mowing, trimming and cleanups while the grass is running, plowing and clearing once the lakes lock up. The same property can look like two different places six months apart, and there is quiet pleasure in knowing one well enough to handle both: where the drive narrows, where the ground stays soft, where the snow can and cannot be piled. Green season closes with the leaves raked and hauled; white season opens with the first storm that means it. In between, a yard is somebody's whole view out the window, and it gets treated that way.
