About August Shier Kid For Hire

Saturday mornings on the side streets of Beaver Dam start with sprinklers ticking and somebody's mower already running two houses down. August Shier Kid For Hire takes the yards on those blocks — push-mower work, the strip between sidewalk and curb, the corners a rider can never quite reach. It is neighborhood-scale lawn care: mow, trim, rake up, then sweep the clippings off the concrete so the walk looks swept and not just cut. By noon the smell of cut grass has settled over the whole street, which is about as close to summer as it gets around here. Cleanups in spring and fall, too, for the weeks when the maples let everything go at once.
