Arbor Vitae is named for a tree — the northern white cedar — and the town lives up to it, green and shaggy at every edge. Tree Removal Inc. works the ground beneath those woods: grass cut where the clearings allow it its share of sun, driveways plowed when Vilas County winter closes over the canopy. Yards here are carved out of forest, ringed with birch and pine, and keeping them open is a running conversation with the woods. In summer the mowers run in dappled light; in winter the blade works under branches sagging with snow. The town keeps growing wilder at its edges, and the work keeps the clearings clear.
