Cinder City Park earned its name from the railroad ash dumped there, and grass came in over it anyway — which is a fair picture of yard work in Altoona. Affordable Lawn Services keeps both halves of the calendar: mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups while the ground is green, then plowing, shoveling and ice control once the Eau Claire River goes still and white. Spring here starts wet and heavy, summer runs fast, and by November the last leaves and the first flakes overlap for a week or two. Working one property through all of that means learning its drainage, its slope, and the corner where drifts always build. The route covers Altoona and reaches into Eau Claire, Seymour and Lake Hallie.
