At the north end of Yarrow Point the land softens into Yarrow Bay, all cattail and open water, and red-winged blackbirds keep up their racket through a June afternoon. Summer on the east side of Lake Washington gives long dry stretches and then a soft evening rain, and grass on the Point answers to both within a day. The satisfying part is the finish: an even height across the whole yard, borders crisp, nothing left behind but the smell of it. Then the mower goes quiet and you can hear the water again.
