North of Wenatchee the Columbia narrows into a basalt canyon on its way past Rocky Reach Dam, and the roads that run along that stretch catch a colder wind off the river than the orchards do farther south. WHITEOUT Snow and Excavation runs its plows up that corridor, clearing driveways and lot access for the homes and small operations tucked along the canyon walls. The name suits the work some mornings, when wind off the water turns falling snow sideways and the far bank disappears entirely. Pairing plow work with excavation means a blocked culvert or a drift packed against a retaining wall gets solved the same visit, not scheduled for later. Getting that stretch of river road open again, with the dam humming somewhere below the bluff, is its own kind of satisfaction.
