About Mels Miscellaneous

There is more sky than town in Warden, and the wind crosses the Columbia Basin with nothing to slow it but the pivots turning their slow circles. Mels Miscellaneous keeps lawns cut and kept in that wide-open country — mowing, edging along drives and walkways, trimming fencelines and odd corners, then clearing away what the blades left behind. A green yard set down in the middle of potato ground and dryland wheat is a small act of stubbornness, and it deserves to be done right. The reward comes at dusk, when the sprinklers tick on, the dust settles, and one mowed lawn holds the last of the light against all that brown. Warden and the towns around it are cut from the same ground and ask for the same steady work.
