About Walla Walla Water Company

This is dry country dressed in green. Past the last block of town the hills go tawny by June and stay that way until the rains return, which makes a well-kept lawn in Walla Walla a small and deliberate act. Walla Walla Water Company tends those lawns — mowing at a height that lets the grass shade its own roots, edging and trimming, feeding in spring and again in fall, aerating ground packed hard by summer. At noon in July the mower sound carries a long way down a quiet street, and cut grass smells like the one cool thing in the whole valley. When the days shorten there is leaf work and a final cut, and then the ground is allowed to rest.
