Mill Creek runs a straight flood-control channel through the edge of Walla Walla before it reaches downtown, and the newer streets built up around that channel are some of the last in town to get plowed on their own. IMD Excavation runs equipment through those developing neighborhoods, opening streets and driveways still waiting on their first full winter of established landscaping. The channel itself pulls a damp, heavier cold down into the blocks nearest it, and snow there tends to pack instead of melt through the day. Clearing a street here is less about appearance and more about making sure a still-new neighborhood isn't the one part of town the mail truck skips. By the time the crew moves on, the channel path and the streets beside it both have bare pavement showing again.
