Vancouver's older streets, the ones threaded through Arnada and Hough, grow under a canopy of bigleaf maple and Douglas fir planted a century ago, and those same trees are the first thing to fail when an ice storm rides in off the Gorge and coats every branch in glass. TreeWise spends those mornings doing two jobs at once: clearing the snow and ice off driveways and walks, and clearing the limbs the ice broke loose overnight. It is a town where a single February freeze can drop more wood than a whole ordinary winter, and knowing which maple leans which way over which driveway is half the work before a truck even starts plowing. The crew moves block to block with a chainsaw in one hand and a shovel in the other, opening a path to the door before opening the rest of the yard. There is something right about a company built on trees being the one that gets a driveway clear on the one week a year the trees turn against it.
