Nature's Best Friend

About Nature's Best Friend

In June the light here lasts until nearly ten, and the last hour of it lies flat and yellow across the ballfields at Homestead Park. Nature's Best Friend takes that hour: mowing in long unbroken lines, running the trimmer down the fence, edging the drive while the air cools off the water. A lawn tended this way earns its evenings — bare feet, a hose left running, cut grass on the air in a yard that finally holds still. The rest of the year the work is quieter, mowing between rains and clearing the ground when the leaves come down. All of it points back to the same thing: a piece of University Place worth stepping out onto.
