The three small lakes that give this stretch of Snohomish County its name sit close enough together that a morning mist off one usually finds its way to the next, settling over the quiet lanes between them long after the rest of Everett has cleared out for the day. Three Brothers Painting spends most of the year on the outside of the houses ringing those lakes, and once the cold arrives the same crew shifts to clearing the driveways and walkways down to the water's edge. It's a hushed corner of the county, more trees than traffic, and a frozen lane here can sit untouched for a day before anyone notices unless somebody's out clearing it. The lakes themselves rarely freeze solid, but the low ground around them holds frost stubbornly, longer than the drier streets up near the highway. Three at a time, or one at a time, the crew works the shoreline lanes the same patient way it works a paint job — start at one end, and don't stop till it's done.
