Oscar's Lawn Service Etc

About Oscar's Lawn Service Etc

On a July afternoon the Hilltop gets the heat and the view at the same time — Martin Luther King Jr. Way baking, and between the houses a blue slot of Commencement Bay with a ship sitting in it. Oscar's Lawn Service Etc mows those streets when the grass has slowed and the cut needs to come off tall so the roots stay cool. Edges pulled clean along the walks, trimmer run around basement windows and porch steps, hedges taken back off the path, weeds lifted out of the beds. The etcetera in the name is honest work: the odd corner nobody else touches, the strip behind the garage, the pile that needs to leave with the truck. When October arrives the leaves come off in one long week and the yards get cleared down to green again. Plain results, block by block, in the oldest part of town.
