Wright Park holds its old elms and its glass conservatory right in the middle of downtown Tacoma, and the blocks that ring it are stitched together from small, well-loved front lawns. Lawn Love mows those streets in the long light of a Puget Sound June, when the gray finally slides off Yakima Avenue by mid-morning and everything green gets brighter at once. The work is walked to the line: mowing at the height the week calls for, edging the sidewalk seams, running the trimmer into fence corners no mower will ever reach, then clearing the walks so the cut stops exactly where the concrete starts. There is real pride in a yard that reads as tended from the street, the mower lines still soft in the grass at suppertime. Spring and fall bring cleanups, when the borders want hands more than wheels and the beds get pulled back to their edges. It is lawn care for a city that grows nine months of the year and needs somebody keeping pace with it.
