Spokane Snow Removal

About Spokane Snow Removal

South of the city the land gives way to the rolling wheat country of the Palouse, stubble fields buried under drifts that pile differently than anything closer to town. Spokane Snow Removal works the driveways where the city limits give out and the farmland starts, plowing long gravel lanes that don't end at a sidewalk but simply keep going toward the next section line. Wind out there has nothing to break it for miles, and it carves the drifts into long ridges that can run the whole length of a lane. The crew reads those ridges before making the first pass, since plowing into the wind's grain instead of across it can mean redoing the whole lane an hour later. When a lane is finally clear, it disappears into the white distance in a straight, dark line, the only mark on all that open ground.
