Along the Appleway Trail, where the old rail bed now carries joggers and commuters instead of freight, the yards backing up to the path get plowed before most of Spokane Valley has poured its first coffee. The Landscape Company treats the winter route the same way it treats a summer mowing route — same properties, same order, just a different tool on the truck. A cold snap here tends to be dry and biting rather than wet and heavy, so the snow moves easily off a driveway if you get to it before foot traffic packs it down. Working a trailside neighborhood at first light has its own cadence, the plow blade scraping in counterpoint to an early runner's footsteps on the packed trail beside it. By the time that trail sees its regular morning traffic, the driveways alongside it are bare and salted, ready for the day.
