Snohomish sits low in its river valley, where fog pools over the old dairy fields until midmorning and the antique-lined storefronts along First Street wake up slow. Snow is a rare visitor to this stretch of the Cascade foothills, but when the clouds do drop low enough to dust the town white, Wintergreen Landscapes is out before the delivery trucks, blading driveways and clearing walking paths so the day can start on schedule. There's a particular satisfaction in cutting the first clean line through untouched snow on a street that usually only knows rain — the crunch underfoot, a porch light still on, the whole block quiet except for the scrape of a shovel against concrete. By the time the fog lifts off the Snohomish River bottoms, the walkways are bare and salted and the driveways stand open, ready for a town built more for gumboots than snow boots. It's occasional work, but on the mornings it's needed, it's the difference between a stuck car and an ordinary Tuesday.
