Sprinkler heads sit capped and silent under Snohomish's first snow of the year, the irrigation lines already drained and put to bed weeks before any cold snap arrives. Sprinklers and Backflows keeps those same systems running the rest of the year, and once winter sets in for real, the crew turns its attention to driveways and walkways, clearing what snow the valley does get before it turns to ice underfoot. Backflow assemblies get one last check too, making sure nothing's left holding water where a hard freeze could crack it. It's a short stretch of very different work from the rest of the calendar, over almost as soon as it starts in a valley that leans toward rain. Come spring, the same crew uncaps the same sprinkler heads and starts the cycle over again.
