Thornton Creek starts in Shoreline as much as anywhere — in the wetland edges of Ronald Bog and Twin Ponds, in the storm runoff that leaves every lawn on the way south. Regenerative Concepts NW keeps that in mind while it works: compost and mulch worked into hungry ground, native shrubs and groundcovers put in where turf never wanted to be, beds weeded by hand instead of drenched. The lawn still gets mown and edged on schedule, cut at a height that shades its own roots through the dry weeks of August. In the wet season the work turns to leaves, brush clearing and cleanups that leave the soil covered rather than bare. A yard built this way asks less of you each year, which is the most satisfying result there is.
