Lake Nahwatzel sits back in the timber west of Shelton, a lake that rims itself in ice at the edges on the coldest mornings while the middle stays open and dark. KrakenPNW works the cabin driveways around it in a cold snap, half joking about the name while the crew clears gravel and boat-launch pull-offs down to bare ground. The lake road holds shade most of the day in winter, so a driveway cleared at eight can be glazed over again by ten without a second pass of salt. It's quick, no-nonsense work out at the lake, more about beating the shade back than fighting any real depth of snow. By the time the sun gets high enough to soften that rim of ice, the driveways above it are already done for the day.
