In July the lavender rows above town go purple to the fence line, and the evening light travels a long way across the Dungeness before it reaches the Olympics. Tarzan's Tree Service spends those long days in the canopy — tree trimming that lets air and afternoon sun down into a yard, pruning that takes the weight off a limb before the limb decides for itself. Removal is the quieter part of the trade: a tree that has outgrown its corner comes down in pieces, and the grass beneath it is left whole. After a hard blow off Sequim Bay, storm damage cleanup clears the fence line and the field gate until the elk are once again the only thing wandering through. It is height work in a valley that rewards patience.
