Beacon Hill wakes up dark most winter mornings, streetlights still on over steep blocks that catch ice easily where the grade steepens near the ridge. Roberto works those blocks alone, driveway by driveway, starting before most of the hill is awake so a walk to the bus stop or a drive to an early shift doesn't mean stepping onto glazed pavement. The ridge itself holds a view east toward the mountains on a clear morning, visible for a few minutes before the light flattens out over the rest of the city. A single set of steps cleared, a single driveway scraped down to concrete — the work is small and repeated house after house, the same motions down one block and then the next. By the time the hill's traffic picks up, most of what he touched that morning has already gone unnoticed, which is more or less the point.
