Ridgefield has been growing fast on the bluff above the refuge, new subdivisions cut into ground that was orchard or pasture a decade ago, and every one of those job sites still needs a clear access road no matter what the sky does in December. OAC Construction plows those unfinished streets and the driveways of the houses already occupied at the edges of the new developments, keeping concrete trucks and moving vans able to get in on schedule. It's a different job than clearing an established neighborhood — half-built curbs, gravel staging areas, driveways still raw concrete under the snow — but a missed delivery window costs a subdivision real time, so the plowing runs on the same schedule as the framing crews. Below the bluff, the older parts of town get the same attention, walkways and driveways cleared house by house along streets that have been there since before the growth started. Whether it's a finished driveway or a job site's gravel access road, the goal in a Ridgefield winter is the same: nothing stops for weather that doesn't have to.
