About RAW Landscape

The wind that funnels down through the Horse Heaven Hills and along the Yakima River delta near Bateman Island doesn't need much snow to make a mess of a Richland property — a couple of inches, driven sideways, and a driveway that faces the wrong direction ends up with a drift a foot deep against the garage door. RAW Landscape reads that wind before it reads the snow total, working the exposed lots along the open edges of town first and coming back a second time if the wind keeps building through the day. It's raw work in the plainest sense — cold hands, open ground, no windbreak to speak of on the properties closest to the river delta — but the payoff is a driveway that's actually clear instead of drifted back over an hour after the first pass. Further into the grid streets, where houses and fences cut the wind down, the job settles into more ordinary plowing and shoveling. Out on the delta's edge, though, clearing a Richland driveway in winter is as much about timing the wind as it is about moving the snow.
