Columbia Point sits right where Richland's waterfront curves around the river, and on a cold morning the trail out there gathers rime before almost anywhere else in town, the moisture off the water freezing onto the railings and the paved loop walkers use year-round. Clean Up Crew works that stretch first — the marina lot, the park paths, the driveways of the homes that look out over the water — because ice there forms fast and quietly, with none of the drama of an actual snowstorm to warn anyone it's coming. The work is less about deep snow, most winters, and more about staying ahead of that river-fed ice before a walker or a driver finds it the hard way. Inland, toward the older grid streets, the job turns into ordinary shoveling and salting, driveway by driveway. By the time the marina reopens for the day, the lot is bare and the trail railing no longer bites back.
