About KKS Snow

Pullman rises and falls with the Palouse, a country of rounded wheat hills that turn from green to gold to bare dirt, and in winter to drifted white under a wind that never quite stops. KKS Snow starts before the sun clears Steptoe Butte, running the farm lanes and campus streets so the first 8 a.m. classes at Washington State don't start with somebody's car stuck at the curb. Snow out here doesn't fall so much as travel; the open stubble fields let it pile into waist-high drifts across a driveway that was clear an hour before. Clearing a lane down to the gravel, watching the plow blade throw a clean wave of powder against those rolling hills, is its own kind of satisfaction in a landscape this exposed. Students and farm families alike depend on those hills staying passable, whether the destination is a lecture hall or a grain bin at the edge of town.
