Most of the year, Straight Up Excavation and Drainage is cutting culverts and grading hillside lots so Port Orchard's rain has somewhere to go — the Kitsap Peninsula sheds water constantly, and a clogged ditch on a steep street turns into a problem fast. Cold snaps change the job but not the terrain: the same skid steers that shape a driveway pad in July push snow off it in January, blade angled to send it toward the same drainage lines that keep the rest of the year dry. Up toward Sedgwick Road and the newer flats off Anderson Hill, driveways get scraped down to bare gravel or asphalt, corners squared, no berm left blocking a garage door. There's a plain kind of pride in leaving a slab exactly as it should sit, drainage clear underneath and snow pushed well clear of the low spots where it would only melt and refreeze.
