Before the foot ferry's first crossing to Bremerton, JL Sno-Plowing is already working the hill streets above town, blade down, headlights cutting through the dark. Port Orchard wakes up slow along Bay Street, past the marina where halyards clink against bare masts, and a plowed driveway means someone can actually get down that hill to catch the boat. The crew works the steep grades off Tremont and the winding lanes toward McCormick Woods, pushing snow to the shoulder before the rest of South Kitsap has poured its coffee. There's a particular satisfaction in a driveway scraped clean to the asphalt, edges square, gravel undisturbed underneath. By the time the sun comes up gray over the water and the shipyard cranes across the inlet, the way is clear.
