Port Angeles gets enough rain most winters that Peninsula Drain & Septic's trucks are busy long before any snow shows up — clearing culverts, jetting lines, keeping water moving off yards built on ground that doesn't drain well to begin with. The rare week that rain turns to snow instead catches half the town's drainage systems already stressed, and a driveway that's normally fine in a downpour can turn into a sheet of ice once the temperature finally drops. The crew keeps a blade mounted for exactly that week: plowing the same client driveways it services all year so the truck carrying the jetter or the pump can actually reach the septic riser or the clogged line underneath. It's a short season's worth of plowing compared to the rest of the calendar, but it's timed to matter most, since a frozen driveway blocking a service truck during the one cold snap of the year is when a backed-up system does the most damage.
