About Dig'Um Dirtworks

The soil under most of Port Angeles is glacial till, packed hard by an ice sheet that shaped these bluffs above the Strait thousands of years before anyone built a foundation into them, and Dig'Um spends its summers cutting through that same ground for footings and drain lines out along Angeles Point and the bluff-top lots west of downtown. Winter doesn't stop the digging so much as slow it, and on the mornings a job site iced over or a client's driveway filled with the season's one real snow, the excavator's bucket comes off long enough for a blade to go on. A driveway carved into a bluff lot doesn't forgive a skipped plow the way a flat street does — one icy pitch down toward the water and a truck's not getting up it again until it thaws. The crew treats those mornings as an extension of the same grading work: read the ground, clear a path a machine can trust, get back to the cut that's waiting. By the time the tide's back out along the bluff base, the driveway's open and the real work of the day is back underway.
