From Otis Orchards the Idaho line is only a few minutes east, and the ponderosa hills above Post Falls hold the last of the evening light after the valley floor has gone blue. North Idaho Landscaping works in that light — mowing, edging, trimming and yard cleanups across the eastern end of the valley. Summer days run long here, so a lawn cut at seven in the evening still gets an hour to stand up before dark. Finishing a yard at that hour is a steadying thing, the machines quiet, the mown rows catching low sun. Then the truck heads east with the windows down.
