Minuteman Construction LLC clears driveways and walkways across the neighborhoods built up on old orchard ground, working the stretch near NE Andresen Road where the sidewalks catch shade all day and never quite thaw. A Pacific Northwest winter is mostly rain, which makes the rare hard freeze easy to underestimate — black ice on a driveway apron looks like nothing until someone's car is sideways in it. The crew's job is to be out ahead of that morning, salt down, blade clean, before Orchards wakes up and heads for Vancouver.
