Pat & Sons keeps its winter mornings simple: one truck, a short list of driveways spread along the rural roads toward Tenino and Rainier, and a route that starts with the properties people need cleared before the workday starts. The crew clears the walk first, then the drive, then checks the mailbox apron where a passing plow or a delivery truck tends to pile ice-crusted slush nobody asked for. A freeze here rarely lasts more than a couple of days, but a couple of days is enough to turn a regular morning slow if a long gravel driveway out past the county line is still glazed at 6 a.m. Pat & Sons runs the same roads in the same order whether the season brings ice or not, showing up early either way.
