Olympia earns its reputation one gray week at a time, and Dryex has built its winter work around the night that week turns to ice instead of rain. A downspout that's been running steady since October freezes solid in a few hours of hard cold, backing water up over a walkway until it's a sheet of glass by morning. The crew clears the entry path first, then traces the drainage that caused the problem, so the same corner doesn't ice over again the next cold night. It's unglamorous work, walking a property in the rain looking for the spot where water pools, but it's the difference between a clear step and a fall on it, and Dryex covers that ground along Harrison Avenue and the rest of Olympia's west side, where runoff tends to collect.
