About Cultivating Kindness Landscape & Design

In the South Capitol neighborhood, where clipped hedges and quiet garden beds back up against the old Capitol grounds, a hard frost can bend a young shrub before its roots ever take hold. Cultivating Kindness Landscape & Design handles winter ice the way it handles everything else on a planted property: carefully, clearing steps and paths by hand in spots where a plow blade would nick a border. The driveway and front path come first, so nobody has to cross ice to reach the door, then the crew checks the beds themselves for weight bearing down on branches a season's pruning shaped. Olympia's winters bring far more rain than snow, but the odd hard freeze off the Sound still glazes everything it reaches, gardens included, and by the time it lifts, the paths are clear and the plantings are exactly where they were left.
