Geologists call the ancient single continent Pangea, all the world's land joined as one, and Olalla feels like a place where land and water are still working out where one ends and the other begins. The small bay curls inland from Colvos Passage, a little bridge spans the lagoon, and across the water Vashon Island's shoreline sits low and dark under drifting cloud. Pangea Gardenscapes shapes and tends gardens and lawns in this tucked-away corner of Kitsap County, where bigleaf maples blaze along the roadsides in October and salt air softens every color. The work is about composition, with lawn, planting and path pieced together into one whole landscape. A garden made that way looks as though it belongs to the bay as much as to the house.
