Oak Harbor's rare snow days tend to arrive off the Strait of Juan de Fuca wrapped in the same fog that usually just brings rain, and Pioneer Way's old storefronts go quiet under it while the ferry schedule holds through the morning. Hank's House Washing switches from hoses to shovels on those mornings, working front walks and driveways along the bluff streets above the harbor before the shops downtown open for the day. The bay itself rarely freezes, but the wind off the water finds every exposed step and turns it to glass by midafternoon, so the salt goes down early and stays down. It's a short season and an odd one for this stretch of Whidbey Island, but the walk to the mailbox gets cleared all the same.
