Johnson & Son's Excavation

About Johnson & Son's Excavation

Where State Route 4 winds between the Willapa Hills and the water, the ground in Naselle is deep, dark and soaked through, and anyone who works it learns to read it the way a fisherman reads weather. Johnson & Son's Excavation is an excavation outfit that also tends lawns, so its attention starts below the grass and finishes at the cut across the surface. Earth is moved, shaped and leveled where a property calls for it, and lawns are kept short and trim through Naselle's long growing months. There is a particular satisfaction in ground that drains right and looks right at the same time. On the rare dry afternoons of late August, when the hills turn tawny at the shoulders, that is the kind of ground left behind.
